Deadwood Management

Dead wooding is one of the most common pruning techniques. It involves the removal of dead, diseased, broken and dangerous branches from within the crown while ensuring the rest of the tree is not affected.

Without severing the deadwood the tree will create an unsafe environment, a health and safety risk and will appear unhealthy.

Pollarding

Tree maintenance technique used to drastically reduce the size of a tree that has outgrown its setting, whilst encouraging growth.

This process involves the removal of all limbs back to the main stem, following which the tree is allowed to regrow. Wherever possible we encourage a Crown Reduction/ Thinning instead.

Crown Thinning

Removing the density of the tree such as over-lapping and small live branches from throughout the crown to a maximum of 25% of the body whilst maintaining it. The minimum amount of branches possible should be removed to achieve your aim leaving the tree looking natural.

This process will increase light levels and reduce shading and wind resistance.

Crown Lifting

Removing particular branches from the lower section of the tree to increase the height of the crown.

This process is performed to remove obstacles/ obstructions and provide clearance under the tree without affecting the overall shape and size of the crown.

Reduction

Reducing the overall size of the crown of the tree by removing the upper limbs and branches from the tips to suitable growth points.

This process is determined by the species, the structural integrity of the tree and location but to avoid stress to the tree, the maximum recommended reduction is no more than 25%.

A good reduction will leave the tree looking healthier and as natural as possible, whilst allowing more light into your garden.
